Images of greenroofs at the Augustenborg research garden

The Greenroof project was started in the fall of 2001 with the construction of the Augustenborg roof garden. The roof garden is designed as both a demonstration garden and a research garden. The total vegetated green roof area is approximately 9000 m2.

There are several different researchers involved in the green roof project at Augustenborg. The project that the Swedish Agricultural University is working on is focusing on factors that can influence the performance and establishment of a green roof in Sweden. We are currently testing the impact of different substrates, different establishment methods, species mixtures, drainage materials and slopes on an extensive roof vegetation. Other researchers from Lund University are working on the impact off green roofs on biodiversity and storm-water management

The first image is an overview of the research area where we are investigating the effect of substrate, species composition and establishing method on the over-all performance of the green roof. Overview of research area
The second image shows an extensive greenroof. Extensive roofs are characterised by very thin substrates 3-8 cm. Extensive greenroof
The third image also shows an extensive greenroof. Extensive greenroof
This image shows a close-up of an extensive greenroof. Close-up of extensive roof
The last image shows an intensive demonstration roof. At the moment we are not doing any research on intensive greenroofs Intensive greenroof
